Learning with Hands-On Activities

PhotosFor years educators have stressed that students learn better "by doing" - especially in the sciences. Students of all ages learn more science-content and skills when they engage in investigation and discovery using everyday materials and the basic equipment of science.

How can this learning take place?
Our carefully designed inquiry centered lessons that involve children with hands-on activies which capture children's natural curiosity, stimulate their interest in science and teach them important science topics along with critical thinking skills.

It's unique!
Our unique Science Club program is designed to meet the needs of children in grades K-6. Club Scientific lessons help engage students in observation, measurement, identification of properties, and experimentation involving life, earth and physical science concepts. The units are rigorously researched by science educators with the help of teachers and children. The results are lessons that students can enjoy and genuinely learn from. Science was never this much fun!

Dozens of program topics!
Rocketry, Chemistry, Paleontology, Forensics, Weather, Flight, Technology and many other disciplines of science. All Club Scientific lessons are designed to help with the development of the following scientific process skills: observing, classifying, comparing, measuring, critical thinking, predicting, hypothesizing, sequencing and experimentation.

Club Scientific believes in parental involvement. In every Club Scientific class, your child will receive a lesson card describing the lesson with some suggestions for extending the learning experience at home. After each semester session, students will receive a science medal to recognize their Scientific achievements.

Each science enrichment SEMESTER lasts for fourteen classes(approximately fourteen weeks. Classes meet once a week for approximately 60 minutes. Class size is 8-10 students, per instructor.

2016-2017 School Year Themes

1. Intro to Lego Robotics with Classic LEGO® WeDo
The LEGO® Education WeDo introduces students to robotics. Students will be able to build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors; program their models; and explore theme-based activities.

2. LEGO® WeDo 2.0 - The newest in Lego Robotics
Designed for second through fifth grade elementary students, the WeDo 2.0 engages students in hands-on activities that ignite students’ curiosity, while enhancing their skills in science, engineering, technology, and coding.

3. Little Bits
Easy-to-use electronic building blocks empowering everyone to create inventions, large and small. The inventions are endless and so is the fun!

4. Building Circuits with Chibitronics
Learn all about circuitry and how to use LED circuit stickers to build simple circuits, parallel circuits, DIY switches, and more.

5. OzoBots
These tiny robots expand STEM and computer science learning through a collection of game based activities and digital apps. Students will learn how to code their robots to do different commands.

6. Chef Scientific
Activities and cooking experiments explore the science behind cooking while learning cooking basics. Chefs will make their own recipes and take home extras to share with their families when available. This is a course for beginning "Chefs", and will include a variety of recipes.

7. Wonder League Robotics
These educational robots walk students through coding using fun interactive games where students build and test their skills in math and help them to think further to solve their interactive games.

8. Kano
The Kano Computer Kit is a computer anyone can make. You build and code it yourself. It’s a fun way to make, play and express your creativity with technology. This class introduces students to various programming languages including Python and Javascript. Kids will learn Python through our Kano Blocks by making Minecraft and Pong, and can dive into the world of Linux by going on a Terminal Quest and by making Snake.

9. Chemistry
From our stock pile of hundreds of recipes and formulas, we have chosen our top favorite chemistry activities. Students will love digging into and examining the results of these crazy chemical concoctions!

10. CSI – Forensic Science
Students will learn to become Crime Scene Investigators. They will learn how law enforcement professional solve crimes. Students will learn how a crime is actually solved and learn how Biology, Chemistry and Physics plays a major role in the investigation. Using the tools used in the field they will collect evidence to solve their own case.
